Rarefaction

This, the opposite of compression, has come to the forefront, or to a forefront, partially by way of exposure to the work of Alfred E. Wunderlich. The thinning of air is used as a means of propulsion. It leads to ideas of LTA, without gas, and without balloon, and it is also used in conjunction with airplane, and ideas of self-propulsion.
Contemporary sources, that is sources contemporary to us, now, seem to segue directly from this term into fields non-pertinent to aviation, or even to air itself.
