Note: This patent, drawn from years beyond those on which we are focusing, was promoted to us, by an official at the AGR 2 - Cuvelier facility. It was alleged by him that this particular patent, for a helicopter equipped with two propellers of ascension or lift, was the inspiration of later helicopters used by the American military. We cannot verify this. A more modest claim is that Belgians, during the period on which we are focused, perhaps did more than their "share" of innovation work with propellers, both of lift and of propulsion. The gentleman promoting the patent mentioned 1930. We are not sure if this was a round figure. The patent was filed in 1926, and “vu pour être annexé à l’arrête ministériel du 31-Jan-1927”. (Handling this as a date granted is tentative, on our part.)

In keeping with the reasoning above, having to do with Belgian interest in the helicopter, Patent BE-1916-275531 is an example which fits more properly into our timeframe, this last-mentioned being an instance in which the wonderful phrase "Navire aérien plus lourd que l’air" is applied to the helicopter.
