Servomotors

"Servomotor" means a fluid-pressure actuator, e.g. a piston and cylinder, directly controlled by a valve or other device which is responsive to operation of an initial controlling member. The initial controlling member may be adjacent to the servomotor or at a distance, and could be a hand lever. The "servomotor" does not include telemotors, meaning a system or device in which a substantially constant amount of fluid is trapped between an input member and an output member to act as a fluid link.[1]

Questions

  • I can't tell without more examples how to distinguish telemotors from servomotors. In the first example, is the valve responding to something external? Whereas the telemotor is one in which the input member IS the control, and there is no intervening valve? Then we can give an example of a telemotor that will make the distinction clear.
