There are analogues between marine navigation and the movement in the air. Water and air are both fluids. This is all in the nature of aerodynamics and hydrodynamics being themselves directly analogous. A more absolute analogue exists between aerial navigation and specifically submarine travel.

There are also hybrid vessels intended for travel in water and air, as well as airships designed with the possibility of water landings in mind.
