Alexandre Arson was a civil engineer who worked for the Compagnie Parisienne du Gaz; from 1857–1894 he was "Ingénieur Chef du Service des Usines". He was a founding member of the Société des ingénieurs civils de France in 1848 and its vice-president in 1876–7.[1]

Arson developed an interest in aeronautics and on 17 July 1878 addressed the Société des ingénieurs civils on the subject of airship steering.[2]

He was vice president of the balloon section of the International Aeronautical Congress of 1889.

In 1892 he was elected president of the Société Française de Navigation Aérienne.[3]
