"Communication de M. Arson." L'Aéronaute 11(9), September 1878), pp. 299–303

Rameau complains at the outset that although Arson's communication was said to deal with "aviation", it actually dealt with aerostation (dirigible balloons), and that the former term had been specifically defined by De La Landelle to mean heavier-than-air flight like that of a bird. (See De La Landelle, 1863, Aviation ou Navigation Aérienne.)

Most of the text reproduces minutes from a meeting of the Société des ingénieurs civils de France, noting that Arson published a longer explanation of his ideas in that society's bulletin. Arson says with the right propellers and gas he can move a dirigible at 4 m/s with 4 horsepower. Rameau writes at the end that Giffard achieved that speed in 1852, and in fact that this speed is not functional as it barely exceed the speed of air movement in ordinary conditions.
