Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences
The Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences, now known as the Russian Academy of Sciences, is a learned society founded in 1724.
Peter the Great visited the Royal Society in 1698 and in consultation with Gottfried Leibniz planned its Russian counterpart. Professors were hired from abroad, especially Germany; they published in Latin and corresponded widely.[1]
The Archive of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences was created in 1728.
The organization was renamed Russian Academy of Sciences in 1917, then CCCP Academy of Sciences in 1925, then back to Russian Academy of Sciences in 1991.
