Patent GB-1909-19540

From Inventing aviation
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Emergency button for aviators in case of roll: stops the motor and changes the alignment of various planes—relying on the "dihedral angle principle" for the plane to right itself and slowly descend, after which the operator may perhaps land or resume flying.

Claimed as analogous to Patent US-1909-935766, filed 6 October 1908. Text of the UK version is a little shorter.

Refers to paper by George Cayley (Cayley, 1809, On Aerial Navigation), republished in Means's 1895 Aeronautical Annual, and to a paper by the Wright Brothers in Century Magazine, September 1908, pp. 642–643 (The Wright Brothers' Aëroplane, 1908).
