James William Butler
James William Butler was an aero inventor, who has entered in to our data quite modestly. We have him filing on his own in 1866.[1] We have him filing in some connexion to Edmund Edwards in 1867.[2] This latter is being fleshed out, elsewhere, in his capacity as a patent agent. We are seeking clarity on this including whether there was only one Edmund Edwards, and if so whether he was in fact an inventor as well as a patent agent.
Butler was an original founder of the Aeronautical Society of Great Britain, one of six to attend the initial meeting hosted by George Campbell, 8th Duke of Argyll, in Kensington on 12 January 1866.[3] Coincidentally another attendee, Francis Herbert Wenham, also patented in 1866.
