Godwin Meade Pratt Swift, Viscount of Carlingford

Godwin Meade Pratt Swift, Viscount of Carlingford was an aero inventor, an Irish Viscount, of Carlingford, a relative of Jonathan Swift. His "aerial chariot", the first aircraft patented in Ireland, was tested it by launching it from the top of Foulksrath Castle on English Wikipedia via a catapult with his butler as the pilot.

That is, in 1857, Swift patented the first aircraft in Ireland. He called the device an "aerial chariot" and tested it by launching it from the top of Foulkrath Castle via a catapult with his butler as the pilot. The plane immediately nosedived to the ground. The butler survived, but with multiple broken bones.[1][2][3]

We have him as addressed, and filing from, place de Rivoli, 3, Paris, département Seine, France.[4] This was likely temporary, or otherwise contextual.

(NOTE: There is a "Carlington" listed within SUBJECT-MATTER INDEX OF PATENTS FOR INVENTION FRANCE 1791-1876 INCLUSIVE T 271 .D 1883 Copy 1, pertaining I believe to the same "aerial car/chariot". Both "Carlingford" and "Carlington" check out, in a pertinent and overlapping manner, within Anglo-French sources on British earl and/or (vis)count histories. INPI simply mentions "CARLINGFORD" whereas the SUBJECT-MATTER INDEX simply mentions "Carlington".)
