The Frankfurter Verein fur Luftschiffahrt or Frankfurt Association for Aerial Navigation was founded on 22 Aug. 1908. It joined the DLV in September 1908. Its emphasis was on ballooning.[1]

Elections were apparently held on 22 Aug. 1908 and the first chairman was Julius Wurmbach. In 1910, Jean Andreae was chairman, Wurmbach was vice chairman, and Dr. Hugo Hutz was secretary and office manager. At that time, there were 600 members, including 44 balloon guides. The association owned nine free balloons. There were two balloon places: coal gas came from the Gasworks near Griesheim while hydrogen ballons were filled at the Griesheim-Elektron Chemical factory near Frankfurt. The Griesheim parade ground near Darmstadt was used as a flying place.[1]

Jane's 1910-1911 lists the address as 29 Schneckenhofstrasse, Frankfort, and the secretary as Englehardt. The address may be Englehardt's address.[1]

Affiliated with DLV on Sept. 1908[1]

Did this group change its name at some point to Frankfurter Verein für Luftfahrt, suggesting a shift in emphasis to at least include aviation? A 1917 membership list includes Hugo Hütz as well as three people with the surname Andreae.[2]
