Albatros Werke G.m.b.H.
Founded by Dr. Ing. M. Gabriel, an Austrian. Ernst Heinkel, chief designer, beginning 1913, of 2-seat biplanes (early 1914, Henkel goes to Brandenburgische Flugzeug-werke); team under Dipl.-Ing. Robert Thielen produced 1-seat fighters.
Antoinettes under license, then many recon and fighter biplanes. More than 10,300 were produced by 1918 with several companies participating.
Albatros Werke went into liquidation in 1917 and was more or less superceded by Albatros, Gesellschaft für Flugzeugunternehmungen m.b.H..[1]
We are currently trying to explicate the specific relation-evolution of Albatros-Werke G.m.b.H. and Albatros Werke AG. "AG" stands for Aktiengesellschaft designating a corporation limited by share ownership, and "G.m.b.H." stands for Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung.
- An advertisement in March 1917 of world records made by Albatros airplanes concludes "Albatroswerke G.m.b.H., Berlin-Johannisthal".[2]
There was an "Austro-Hungarian subsidiary" of this latter firm. In Patent HU-1914-68002, accessed via the Szellemi Tulajdon Nemzeti Hivatala database in anglophone setting, we have "Österr. Ungar. Albatros-Flugzeugwerke G. m. b. H.".
