Hudson Maxim (brother of Hiram Stevens) proposes Tesla-esque electric power system for aircraft. Full text:

Among the possibilities of the future for aerial navigation, according to Hudson Maxim, the great inventor, will be the wireless electric sky road or zones of electric energy, leading from center to center of population and industry, along which flying machines will pass to and fro, drawing their power from an electric system stretched along the earth, thus obviating the necessity of each individual flying machine developing its own energy. Each machine will carry an electric meter, and the consumer will pay for the energy used just as he now pays for the electric current which lights his residence.
