  • From google patents abstract: "129,846. Blackburn Aeroplane & Motor Co., Booth, H., and Beaumont, G. Aug. 14, 1918. Framework.-Skeleton tubular .spars, struts. &c. for aircraft are so constructed that the solid portions in the front and back surfaces are opposite each other, so that the may be enclosed in a suitable fairing. Figs. 1 and 3 shows a spar such as is described in Specification 129,845 having the opposed parts 3, 5; 1, 2; and 4, 6 respectively enclosed in separate fairings, which may comprise front and tail shaped blocks enclosed in a fabric cover. Part of a, spar may project beyond the wing surface, this part having such fairings attached to it."
