The Niederrheinischer Verein fur Luftschiffahrt (Nr. V.) or Lower Rhine Association for Aerial Navigation was founded 15 Dec. 1902 at Barmen, Germany. It joined the DLV (German Aeronaut Federation : Deutscher Luftschiffer-Verband) in January 1903. The association owned balloon stores. The first ascent was 8 Jan. 1903. By 1910, there were sections at Bonn, Dusseldorf-Crefeld, Essen, and Wuppertal, which see. It appears that members from Barmen belonged to Sektion Wuppertal.

Dr. Bamler was founder of the association on 15 Dec. 1902. Its first chairman was the mayor, Dr. Lentze. Fifteen members were reported in 1903. The membership on 1 Apr. 1906 was 633, including 15 aeronauts. In 1910, Captain von Abercron was chairman, Ernst Milarch was vice chairman, and Hugo Eckert was secretary and office director. At that time, there were 1,735 members, including six balloon guides; those numbers appear to include all four sections. The association owned 16 free balloons and operated 14 balloon places. It also owned three aircraft (one glider, one monoplane, and one biplane) that used an airfield at Ruhrwiesen.

1909 Jane's does not give a location; 1910-1911 Jane's lists an address in Dusseldorf, characterized here as the Dusseldorf Section. Also need to check Aéro-Manuel 1911.

Affiliated with DLV, 1903
