Гатчина (Gatchina) is a town southwest of Saint Petersburg where the Russian military, First Russian Aeronautics Company Shchetinin & Co., conducted aviation activities including training.
In April 1910 General Alexander Matveevich Kowanko appinted G. G. Gorshkov to head the Gatchina airfield, initiating the Gatchina Flying School. Activity began immediately and in October, G. V. Alekhnovich made the first flight from Gatchina to Petersburg.[1]
