Patents
- Finnish Patent and Registration Office -- possibly continuous from 1876 to the present.
- Starting in 1856 in Sweden and in 1876 in Finland it was required that for a foreigner to get a patent, a local patent agent must be identified. Andersson indicates that the requirement was intended to serve judicial processes. "Swedish patent agents were responsible for between 30-40% of foreign patents in Finland."[1]
This wiki has 9 Finnish patents and 0 patents filed by Finns.

We have some information on Finnish patents that is not available on espacenet from expert Matti La Mela and his colleagues. Filing dates (aka application dates) are not visible on the patent specs of the early aero era. la Mela and his colleagues have recorded those for patent 8426 and above from patent register books available to them via the Finnish Patent Office, and made that information available to us. For patents before 8426 it may be that no application date is known. La Mela sent us this information on 7 April 2024. He also sent a full list of IPC class B64 patents from Finland in this time period. The assignment of IPC classes was done by Finnish patent office staff in the 1990s, he tells us.
