Abstract from google patents: Abstract: Propelling and steering by screw propellers; driving-arrangements for screw propellers.-Comprises improvements in propeller mechanism of the type in which a differential gear is combined with a brake device, and consists in combining the differential gear with bevel-gear, fitting it with ball bearings and enclosing it in a casing. The motor shaft a carries the bevel-wheel b, by which the bevel-wheel c on the box d of the differential gear is driven. The box d turns on ball bearings in the casing g, which is constructed to enclose the whole of the gearing. Brakes m on the shafts i may be used to vary the relative speeds of the propellers j, and thus facilitate steering. When the brakes are left free, the angular speeds of the propellers are identical. A modification is described, in which the propeller shafts in aerial machines are disposed in three directions to produce longitudinal and transverse equilibrium.
