Franz Hinterstoisser was an Austrian military officer who founded the Wiener Aëro-Klub with Viktor Silberer. He became head of Austrian military aeronautics (die militär-aëronautische Anstalt; is this all of it or just a subdivision?) on 21 November 1907.[1]

He was an experienced balloonist and member of the International Commission for Scientific Aeronautics and Permanent International Aeronautic Commission.[1]
