• One reviewer, publishing in Oct 1784, wrote, "En augmentant ou diminuant le volume du ballon, sans devoir en faire sortir l'air inflammable, ou en introduire de nouveau, l'auteur enseigne la manière de régler l'ascension & la descente des aerostats. L'auteur donne aussi une invention ingeniuse pour diriger le mouvement du ballon, vers la partie de l'horizon ou l'on desire se porter. La machine qu'il propose de substituer au baromètre portatif peut etre de beaucoup d'avantage pour quiconque voyage à travers les montagnes, pour y faire des observations." English translation: "By increasing or decreasing the volume of the balloon, without having to remove or reintroduce flammable air, the author teaches how to regulate the ascent and descent of aerostats. The author also gives an ingenious invention to direct a balloon's movement. The machine he proposes to substitute for the portable barometer can be of great benefit to anyone who travels through the mountains to make observations." This source says Calvi's work has 8 volumes.
• Hey maybe when Brockett put "8°", he meant 8 volumes! Put that note in Brockett 1910.
• Another contemporary source describes Calvi as an engineer (ingénieur), and uses very similar language to describe the work.
