Patent GB-1912-15564

From Inventing aviation
Jump to navigation Jump to search

An ornithopter with flapping wings which can be paused mid-stroke so that the aircraft can glide with temporarily fixed wings. The patent describes the use of springs and compressed air to determine the wings' position.

Unusually here there's a second number-date-year for a second application; so that this application also encompasses application #158 of 1913, filed on 2 January, when a second and different provisional specification was submitted. This is one day before the date given for "complete specification left" and it's six months after the initial application so it may relate to a renewal needed by law as well as a substantive addition. The informational header cites Section 16 of the Patents and Designs Act, 1907.
