  • This or another device by Souchier was called a prisme-télémètre, possibly meaning range-finder: Topographie, vol. 1, by By Eugène Prévot and Onésime Roux, 1898, p.416
  • Here and there, Souchier is called Captain or Commandant or Colonel Souchier. Articles that probably refer to him: [1]
  • "The French Colonel SOUCHIER*, in command of the 103rd Rgt. d'Infanterie in Paris, invented a marching compass (boussole militaire directrice) which appears under his name in the 1907 issue of the most important French retailer for metallic products (armes et cycles / fire arms and bikes) MANUFRANCE. He had an agreement with Henri Houlliot for manufacturing and selling his compass. They planned to build two versions: 'one with a rotating base plate so that it could be used as a marching compass, and one without.' This instrument is designated boussole directrice (marching compass) . . . He is also known for having invented a range finder (télémètre)."[1]
  • a set of sources imply that this is the relevant Souchier: Louis-Auguste-Didier Souchier[2], aka Louis Souchier.[3]
  • He is perhaps a Captain at the time of his inventions in the 1890s, and becomes a WWI General.
