Éleuthère Mascart
Élie-Éleuthère-Nicolas Mascart (20 February 1837 – 26 August 1908 ) was director of the Bureau Central Météorologique in France and President of International Meteorological Committee for several years. He participated in numerous other national and international scientific bodies including the British Royal Society and Comité international des poids et mesures.[1][2]
He graduated from the École Normale supérieure in 1858 with a 'doctor of science' degree. He became director of the meteorological bureau in 1878 and remained in this post until near the end of his life.[1]
He continued scientific work in electricity and optics, focusing especially on ultraviolet radiation.[1]
Mascart was interested in sharing Atlantic weather data with the U.S. Weather Bureau.[3]
