Gyro Copter Co.
A source says the Gyro Motor Company operated at present-day 770-774 Girard St. NW, Washington DC.
"The Gyro Motor Co. and Standard Material Co. operated at this site from 1902 to the mid-1920s. The Gyro Copter, manufactured there, was a predecessor to the helicopter . . . The original brick factory building [was] called the Warehouse. [It] has been given landmark status by the D.C. Historic Preservation Office."[1]
The company is assignee of (at least) nine US engine patents, from inventors Robert S. Moore, Spencer Heath, Herbert R. Palmer, and company founder Emile Berliner.
Emile Berliner and his son Henry demonstrated a helicopter (at altitude of 12') for the U.S. Army on 16 July 1922.[2]
Now the building has 15 condos and is called the "Helicopter Factory" in honor of its history.[1]
