The Tour Eiffel or Eiffel Tower was constructed by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 Exposition universelle. It sits at the northwest end of the Champ-de-Mars.
From the beginning, the Eiffel Tower was used for various physical and meteorological tests with a view to aeronautical applications. In 1909 Eiffel continued some of these experiments further in a wind tunnel built nearby.
