A light motive power is obtained by the decomposition of water or other liquid within a closed vessel, through the action thereon of metallic sodium, potassium, finely-divided manganese or other metals having a like affinity for oxygen. The hydrogen which escapes is employed to work an engine for driving a balloon, or a jet in escaping the atmosphere may be employed for direct propulsion by means of its repulsive power.
