Composed exclusively of members of the Harmonie Singing Club of San Francisco, the Zeppelin Aero Club (spelled Zepplin in the San Francisco Chronicle, 10 Mar. 1909) held its first banquet on 8 Mar. 1909 with over 150 members in attendance. Addresses were given by George F. Schwartz and H. L. Hirsch, skits were performed, aero club officers were elected, and it was revealed that for several months the officers had been constructing an air ship near San Mateo that they expected would take its first flight on 1 April. However, except for the initial report, the club appears not to have been mentioned in the Chronicle again and it seems doubtful that the club reached its first anniversary.

Initial Zeppelin Aero Club Officers elected included George F. Schwartz, president and chief helmsman; H. L. Hirsch, assistant helmsman; and Max Weiss, captain. It appears that both men and women were counted as initial members.
