George Grantham, eh.net 2006 review of Usher's work, says Robert Fulton did many experiments to calculate/measure the resistance to water paddlewheel of caring design and to the form of the hull of a ship, and relations to the weight and velocity of the engine. his work was based on Colonel Mark Beaufoys experiments which detest Euler's theorems on the resistance of fluids.
