Rene Cecil Motte was an aero inventor who described his occupation as "Gentleman".

In 1915 Motte filed a patent from Kingston, Ringwood, Hants, Great Britain. In 1918, he filed a patent from 53 Shirley Park Road, Southampton, Hants. Hants is a synonym for "Hampshire", and is on the southern coast of Britain.

He appears to have had an interest in hydroaeroplanes. Given his location he probably had expertise in watercraft.
