Smethurst had many similar patents across countries. It is clear that this one is a child of others, presumably a New Zealand one (but we have not found that yet) or the British one. The dates need to be established. The task is to fill out the patent families as best we can. For now, we'll use the working proposition that this patent is a descendant of a US one which appears to be substantively the same.
