From google patents: "Shaping by cutting.-In machines for shaping wooden articles, such as aircraft propellers . . . a feeler [traverses] a pattern [and] transmits its movements to a rotating cutter . . . so that a desired angle, preferably a right-angle, is maintained between the cutter and the feeler and the parts of the surfaces of the blank and the pattern with which they are in contact."
