From google abstract: "Woosnam, A., (Ackerman, A. H., and Ericson, F. G.). Sept. 5, 1917. Shock of landing, deadening; land-wheels.- Aeroplanes are provided with spring wheels for absorbing the shock of landing, the usual landing springs being dispensed with, and the axle is secured in a readily dismountable manner. Fig. 2 shows a spring wheel M rigidly attached to struts B by means of plates E, Fig. 3, bolted to the struts and forked at H to receive the axle D. The axle is retained by a bolt J and is formed with a series of holes one or other of which is engaged with a lug L on the plate E."
