Abstract on google patents: "157,998. Bruce, R. A. Dec. 12, 1916. Steering and balancing.-In an aeroplane or seaplane having two pairs of ailerons, the outer of which may be adjusted in opposite directions for lateral balancing, while all of them may be adjusted in the same direction for varying the wing camber, the latter adjustment is effected by screw-and-nut mechanism c operated through bevel-gears g<3>, g<4> from a hand-wheel g, and the former adjustment by a hand-lever i connected by a rod h to a sector f pivoted to the screw c. The wires a<5> from the inner ailerons are secured to cross-heads b, e on the screw c, and the wires a<4> from the outer ailerons pass over a pulley d on the screw and are secured to the sector f."
