Lord Rayleigh

Lord Rayleigh (a.k.a. John William Strutt but rarely named as such in our context) was a physicist known for his work on fluid dynamics, acoustics, and thermodynamics, among other fields. He was president of the Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. He received a Nobel Prize in 1904 for isolating argon, the noble gas.[1]

Rayleigh's wife, Evelyn, was the sister of statesman Arthur James Balfour.[1]
