Belén Quezada designed a flying machine and patented it. She filed from San Jose, California, and had come from Costa Rica.
Tom Tafolla's research found her, highlights her importance, and developed information about her biography. He says she came from Costa Rica, and that her family was wealthy.[1] According to the patent she was a citizen of the U.S. by this time, filing from San Jose.
Can't tell from the patent whether she built the airplane. Its wings are highly curved like birds' wings, and narrow to points at the tips. It seems unrealistic but not impossible.
