Ader relates to Nadar the 9 October flight of the Éole and writes that he had to limit himself to a distance of 50 meters because of the available space.
J'ai résolu le problème après bien du travail, de fatigue et d'argent ; mon appareil d'études terminales s'appelle Eole, il vient de faire sa première envolée, avec moi dedans, sur une distance de 50 mètres, cette distance n'a pu être plus grande parce que l'aire de manœuvre est trop courte. L'expérience a eu lieu à Gretz-Armainvillier, dans le parc de Mme Pereire, qui m'a fait la gracieuseté de me donner l'hospitalité. Je me fais un devoir de vous annoncer cela, à vous qui avez tant aimé la question, en cas que vous désiriez voir l'Eole qui restera là encore quelques jours.
