Cf. Subject-matter Index of Patents for Invention, France, 1791-1876 Inclusive.

One part of this book uses roughly the same headings as they were internally by the American office, with aeronautics falling largely under class 98, Pneumatics. But the main part of the text uses a more-spread out, "dictionary"-like system.

Patents are identified using the volume and number of entry in the Registro attestati. In the words of the author:

Italian patents have, besides this style of numbering, another perfectly consecutive serial numbering, which was, with very few exceptions, entirely inaccessible to the compiler of this Index.
