The Deutsch-Archdeacon prize created jointly by Ernest Archdeacon and Henry Deutsch de la Meurthe, offered 50,000 francs to the first aviator to fly a full kilometer and return to his starting point.
Henry Farman won the prize on 13 January 1908 flying a modified Voisin biplane, circling widely around a post 500 meters from his starting point and returning to make a successful landing.[1]
