Benjamin Franklin (1706–1790) was an American inventor whose interests sometimes bore on aeronautics, and who famously, perhaps legendarily, used a kite as a scientific instrument to measure electricity.

Vol. 1 of the Aeronautical Annual (1895) contains a handful of Franklin letters pertaining to aeronautics. These bear dates from 1783–1786 and follow the Montgolfier demonstration.
