Arthur de Bausset was an aero author and inventor. He filed from 201 W. 36th Street, Manhattan, New York, New York, USA, around 1902. He reported on one patent that he had an MD so presumably he worked as a physician, but we don't have data on that.
Many more sources:
- http://www.worldcat.org/identities/nc-transcontinental%20aerial%20navigation%20company%20of%20chicago/ -- not clear yet whether the company had any existence apart from Mr. de Bausset's 1887 publication
- The American Engineer -- this looks clear and readable
- [1] -- no source there, but indicates that de Bausset and Zeppelin worked together by 1889
- Wow, a recent analysis citing his work: Marc Manheim, http://physics.wooster.edu/JrIS/Files/Web_Article_Manheim.pdf, saying "The concept of a vacuum airship has existed for centuries, with the first prototype presented by Arthur De Bausset in 1884. He proposed suspending a transport compartment from an enormous, thinly walled, steel cylinder . . . [but such designs] have failed due to the challenges of creating a chamber strong enough to resist atmospheric pressure."
