- Aerial Police for New York City
- New York, N. Y.—Police commissioner Enright has organized an aviation section in the police department with Colonel Jefferson De Mont Thompson as its head. New York is said to be the first city in the world to have a regular aviation section connected with its police department. Alan R. Hawley, president of the Aero Club of America, in speaking of the new section, said: “The fundamental importance of the aviation section is quickly appreciated when the many duties of the police department are considered. The work of the aviators in connection with directing the protection of communities surrounding Morgan, N. J., during the recent catastrophe, when the fire threatened to ignite tons of TNT, which might have caused the destruction of the subways and buildings in New York City, emphasized the necessity of having aviators available for such emergencies.”
