Count Francesco Zambeccari was an early balloon voyager.
He and two friends took off from Bologna in a big hydrogen balloon in 1803, ascending so fast that the count and one of his companions were knocked out. They fell quickly (presumably because the remaining aeronaut was able to let out some air) and threw everything overboard lest they fall in the water—then suddenly rose again, to an even greater height. They had difficulty breathing and got frostbite.[1]
