Seine-et-Oise departement locator map.svg

This département was dismembered in 1968, at which point it was replaced by six current départements, three of which are integrally composed of former communes of Seine-et-Oise. These form, along with those of Seine-et-Marne, la grande couronne within région Île-de-France.

The three coming from the now former Seine-et-Oise are Yvelines and Essonne and Val-d'Oise.

The other three are formed principally of former communes of département Seine. These three, which likewise shouldn't come to us via antique sources, are Hauts-de-Seine and Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne.[1] This sort of thing has effects in terms of the situation cities, towns, or "communes", coming to us by way of antique data. Saint-Gratien (Val-d'Oise), for instance, was situated within département Seine-et-Oise during the period we are studying.

All of these locations, départements as well as smaller localities, will have data which ties into what is now région française Île-de-France.[2]
