V-shape, with 'head'; long delay in granting; earlier experiments & coverage: http://www.gustave-whitehead.com/history/57th-total-20th-manned-plane-1901-11-19-new-york-evening-telegram-p-10/

Tentatively using the 'airplane' designation in tech terms despite the omission of a propulsion mechanism from the patent itself. First, because the title of the patent (chosen or approved by Munn & Co.) should reflect what would have been considered an airplane (or 'aeroplane') patent in 1905. Second, because Whitehead was known to use airplane-type propulsion with aircraft of the type here described.

Inventor location (imputed by HistPat): Bridgeport, Fairfield county, CT (FIPSloc=9001); ½ assigned to Stanley Yale Beach, Stratford Connecticut
