This patent is among a number of patents filed collaboratively between Arthur Henry Edwards and Martin Diederich Rucker, which build upon Patent GB-1908-4519, filed solely by Arthur Henry Edwards. Patent FR-1909-399458 makes specific reference to Patent GB-1908-4519, by filing date that is, and the French patent was also filed solely by Arthur Henry Edwards.

This invention concerns the arrangement of planes on an aircraft. Specifically it calls for planes "extending forward from the transverse centre line of balance, and which converge forwardly and meet at the longitudinal centre line of the aeroplane" as well as similar rearwardly extending planes of larger area.

Terminology:

This invention has for its object improvements in or relating to aeroplanes and any similar or analagous apparatus or devices such as are called or are known as hydroplanes, kites, flying machines, and the like, all of which for the sake of brevity we will hereafter refer to as "aeroplanes".

Application is signed and dated 16 April 1909. As it is a signed typescript it may have been sent from London to Wellington by boat and then processed by Hughes, to be submitted on June 21.

We have a record of a Norway filing by the same inventors—Patent NO-1911-21406—and there is very likely a British version as well.

  • Rucker: Engineer of Parliament Mansions, Victoria Street, London, S.W., England
