From google abstract: "Aerial machines without aerostats; propelling; steering. A flapping-wing machine has two louvered wings mounted on arms moved in an oval or elliptic path, the major axis of which is adjustable in inclination. A tail plane adjustable about a transverse and longitudinal axis is provided for steering, and means are provided for holding the wings in a gliding position, and for preventing the engine from racing on the up-stroke of the wings. The main spar 15 of each wing has projections 16, Fig. 15, engaging transverse arc-shaped grooves 17 in a bearing 18 carried by a conoidal bracket 19 secured to the side of a bird-shaped body"
