"124,355. Channon, F. W. July 11, 1918. Screw propellers.-The tip of an aerial propeller blade is provided with a leather shield. A piece of leather is cut to the shape shown in Fig. 4, the portion b is applied against one face of the blade, and the strips c are folded over and applied against the reverse face of the blade as shown in Fig. 2. The edges of the leather are bevelled to ensure good fitting. The surface of the blade tip not covered by the leather is coated with a layer c of cement. The whole surface is then coated with enamel and finally with varnish."
