Google patents says: "Addition to 7686/15. Aerial machines with aerostats; aerostats; parachutes. Aeroplanes fitted with a balloon such as is described in Specification 7686/15 are provided with a protective cover or canopy spaced from the upper surface of the balloon, and the exhaust gases from the engine are discharged into the space thus formed. Fig. 1 shows a canopy A supported above a balloon B by tubular standards C, D, E bent to conform to the shape of the balloon. The exhaust gases pass through the standards and discharge through pipes M, 0. The balloon described in the Specification referred to acts as a parachute when deflated."
