  • "Object of the improvement is to reduce the ripping of the cloth in aeroplanes or other aircraft due to wind pressure and other causes." So they propose to weave some threads in of stronger stuff, from animal guts mainly. "Strengthening cords and the like, fabrics with; materials, special, fabrics containing. Fabrics for aeroplanes and other aircraft are woven with strong threads of gut or gut substitute formed from plaited silk inserted in the warp and weft at intervals, say from two to six inches apart, so as to form a check of the strong threads to resist ripping." Plaited silk may mean braided, like hair.

(Seems like an obvious application of pre-existing technology, though certainly relevant and feasible) -- (Apparently a low quality patent.)
