  • From the abstract on google: "20,866. Forrest, G. M. Sept. 21. Aerial machines without aerostats; planes, arrangement of; propelling.-In a monoplane having tandem planes A secured to the upper part of the machine, two large screw propellers C are arranged between the planes and a vertical keel plane D connects the planes. The motor is arranged in the car B to give a low centre of gravity. When the motor stops, the screw propellers are prevented from rotating and serve, along with the keel plane and the low centre of gravity, to cause the machine to descend as a parachute."
  • Inference: the invention's safety feature is that the airplane is intended to glide well if its engine stops; though we see the word parachute in the patent text, I think it's not in any sense an invention related to parachutes, so I don't classify it that way; it's a safety invention using glider designs, not a glider or parachute invention
  • Tech class: CPC B64C39/08: Aircraft not otherwise provided for having multiple wings
  • Inventor occupation and location: Photographer; of Danacre Road, Brechin
  • Confusingly, the "completed" spec is signed on April 28, but the patent office records the completed specification as having been filed on March 20th. The inventor got an exception, or made a mistake, or something. It's not substantively important but may illuminate the process. example
